Description

ITAP (Institute of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies) is a university research institute of the University of Valladolid with more than 32 academic members from several areas of knowledge. Most of them belong to the School of Industrial Engineering, although there are members from the Faculty of Medicine and other centers. There are also external members from some companies (mainly researchers at Cartif Foundation and practitioners at Hospital Clínico Universitario de Valladolid that collaborate with ITAP.
All of them work togethers in engineering projects, combining teaching work with research and technology transfer.

The ITAP institute has spaces for the administrative secretariat of the institute, which is located in the headquarters of the Paseo del Cauce of the School of Industrial Engineering. It also has the laboratories that provide the main research groups that make up it (Fluids Laboratory, Thermotechnics, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Networks, Structures and Robotics).

Strategic objectives

The objectives of the institute are the generation, transfer and dissemination of new knowledge in the field of engineering in its broad sense. Through its lines of research the institute has an integrating activity between fields such as industrial production and process control, medicine and surgery, energy and the environment, simulation and modeling, maintenance of facilities and infrastructures, .. Collaboration with other institutions of the University of Valladolid in the development of master’s and doctoral programs, as well as other courses of specialization and ongoing training are also objectives of the institute. Also, scientific publications, patents, competitive research projects and contracts with companies and institutions, without forgetting the preparation of final master’s and doctoral theses, as well as the specialized training of researchers and technologists.

Operatives objectives

The operational objectives are established in terms of the indicators used by ACSUCYL for the five-year permanence of the IUI: a) member number academic, b) qualification of the same in terms of sexenios, c) scientific-technical productivity in terms of publications, d) productivity of transfer work in terms of patents, recruitment of competitive projects and contracts with companies and e) visibility as trainers of technologists and doctors measurable in terms of training courses and direction of master’s and doctoral thesis, all in the field of activity of ITAP. Five-year period after five years the institute must improve in the averaged set of the five indicators, either in quality, quantity or both. Mission: Enabling the effective transfer of knowledge and technology in the field of engineering, a bridge between applied research that It is developed at the University of Valladolid and the necessary innovation for institutions and companies.

Vision: ITAP is an effective bridge that connects technological knowledge in the field of industrial engineering and medical engineering with the needs of companies and institutions, in collaboration with technology centers.

Thematic around which the Institute is articulated: Research, development, innovation and transfer in the field of engineering in general, with special activity in industrial engineering and medical engineering.

Research areas: The members of ITAP work in different fields of engineering, which have been organized since their recognition as IUI around the following three major areas of research:

  1. Robotics and Computer Vision.
  2. Modeling, Simulation and Control of Systems.
  3. Environmental Technologies
Training: ITAP channels its training activities for university technologists and researchers through the completion of numerous end-of-degree, master’s and doctoral theses on the specific topics of the institute and directed by its members.

Additional Information:

The members of the institute are organized in research groups, some of them with institutional recognition. Specifically the Junta de Castilla y León, according to EDU / 1006/2014 order regulates the Consolidated Research Units (UIC) and the order EDU / 1623/2006 regulates the requirements to obtain the status of Research Groups of Excellence (GIE) . For its part, the University of Valladolid establishes the procedure (approved by Consejo de Gobierno, September 28, 2009) for Recognized Research Groups (GIR). Currently the institute has representation of two UICs, two GIEs and five GIRs, as indicated below.
  • Termotecnia (GIR)
  • Structural Optimization group
  • Robótica médica
