Description

Since 2005, the Genetic Diagnosis Laboratory has carried out, together with its teaching and research activities, a Repetitive Technical Service, under Article 83 of the LOU (Spanish acronym for Organic Law of Universities), in the field of genetic identification and characterization of plants and other organisms of forestry interest, especially phytopathogenic fungi. This service is unique in the market, as we offer a comprehensive service fully adapted to the client's needs, from initial advice according to the posed problem to final interpretation of the results obtained, plus samples reception, preparation and conservation; specific genetic analyses; and the writing of a report that may include recommendations on the use of the analyzed material. Our research experience allows us as well to advice clients, to collaborate in the writing of different types of publications and to optimize the use of the available resources.

Additional Information:

MAIN TECHNIQUES • DNA extraction • PCR amplification • Real-time PCR and quantitative PCR • Analysis of DNA fragments: nuclear and cytoplasmic (mitochondrial and chloroplast) microsatellites • Horizontal and capillary electrophoresis • RFLP on yeast mitochondrial DNA  AVAILABLE EQUIPMENT • Molecular biology: Thermocyclers; DNA fragment analyzer (ABI Prism 310); RETSCH MM301 grinder; Tanks, power supplies and SDG for DNA electrophoresis; DNA quantifier by spectrophotometry; Real-time and quantitative PCR • Additional equipment: Refrigerators and freezers; Thermostatic baths; Mcrofuge and refrigerated centrifuge; Speed-Vac; Laminar flow cabinet; Vortex; Magnetic stirrer with heater; Desktop autoclave; Hybridization stove. GENETIC DIAGNOSIS LAB'S EXPERIENCE • Determination of plant genotypes (clones, strains and individuals) to be included as MFR (forest reproductive materials) in catalogs, to detect operating errors (e.g. master-seed crops) or fraud (e.g. in wood plantations, vineyards) • Assessment of the quantity and distribution of genetic diversity and differentiation of natural populations (e.g. characterization of seed sources, usage recommendations, characterization of germplasm collections) • Phylogenetic and kinship relationships. Paternity tests. • Detection of hybrids and genetic introgressions (e.g. seed orchards) • Early sex identification • Molecular characterization of phytopathogenic fungi PRICES A customized budget will be drafted taking into account the problem posed, the species involved, the markers and protocols available in the bibliography, the previous experience of the Genetic Diagnosis Lab, the number of samples, etc.
