Companies and markets:
Signal processing is a discipline used in multiple devices on a daily basis, and evidently present in technologies involved in leading technological advances. For this reason, the development of HW systems for signal processing entails a very horizontal applicability. Particularly interesting for media corporations, acoustic, radar and sonar. Some of the main applications for signal processing are, for instance, digital image processing, video compression, speech processing, voice recognition, digital communications, radar, seismology and biomedicine. We can also mention as specific examples that will ring a bell, voice compression and transmission in digital cell phones, sound equalization in high fidelity equipment (Hi-Fi), seismic data processing, industrial processes control, data mining for fraud detection in credit cards, computer generated animations in movies, MP3 compression or medical images such as functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).
Advantages:
Signal processing covers many technical and scientific disciplines, so that it is positioned as a great utility tool on a daily basis and in society in general.
