Description

In the EPIK project (by its Spanish acronym) a Serious Game is developed aimed to the balance’s training of people who have suffered a stroke. A Microsoft Kinect 2.0 motion capture camera is used. The SPIK project is divided in different modules: Profile module: it keeps the user’s basic information (name, password, permits, clinical records…). Administrator module: it allows the creation of a database with exercises and then classify them into different levels. We can create sets of exercises in each level (specific positions of the human body we call ‘silhouettes’). Evaluation module: it is used to evaluate the joints’ range of movement from the user. Therapist module: this can design the game’s sessions for each patient.

Differentiation in the market:

Novelty

Applicability of technology:

Yes

Companies and markets:

Every EPIK module has been designed with the support of physical rehabilitation experts. The project is being currently tested with stroke patients. The results of these tests will be used to improve the system even more and provide, in the near future, a technology capable of assisted rehabilitation with user-driven design.

Advantages:

Project based in new technologies and devices to create a complete system using a low cost sensor like Microsoft Kinect 2.0 which will address the evaluation and a patient’s treatment cycle in an easy and cheap way.

Additional Information:

Project developed by Image and Telematic Group (GTI in its Spanish acronym), in collaboration with Fundación ASPAYM Castilla y León and Physical Disability Research Center (CIDIF in its Spanish acronym), from the same foundation.
