Description
The University of Valladolid’s Institute of Applied Ophthalmo-Biology (IOBA), in collaboration with the Department of Medicine, Surgery and Veterinary Anatomy of the University of León, offers its services to companies or scientific groups for the development of biomedical research in ophthalmology and vision sciences. Any model proposed or described in the literature, as well as any type of in vivo preclinical study for the development of drugs or medical devices for use in human or veterinary medicine, could be developed in our facilities. It offers the possibility of carrying out the following studies: • Eye studies: - Ultrasonography and biometry. - Queratometry. - Tonometry. - Photography and analysis of the ocular fundus. - Fluorescein angiography. • Other studies: - Ocular histopathology: through optical, confocal and electronic microscopy. - Cellular cultures: possibility of testing formulations in human (IOBA-NHC, hRPE) and/or animal cell lines. - Pharmacokinetics and toxicology studies: determination of protein and/or drug levels in eye tissues. - Flow cytometry. - Other biological studies: Western-blot, Luminex, etc. - Statistical service: developed by qualified professionals with extensive experience in the described fields of study. • Equipment: - Animal species and housing: the possibility of working with a wide range of animal species is offered, including: mouse, rat, hamster, guinea pig, gerbil, rabbit, chicken, sheep, pig, cat, dog, cow and horse. For accommodation and maintenance, all individual units, fully equipped and adapted to the needs of each species. - Ocular Surgery: fully equipped operating rooms are available to perform complex surgical procedures in the field of ophthalmology (including anterior segment, vitreoretinal and refractive surgery), as well as anesthesia and monitoring equipment, appropriate to each animal species. - Diagnosis by image: there is a fully equipped X-ray room, an ocular ultrasound system, and a 3-Tesla nuclear magnetic resonance machine, complete with a wide range of antennas, which allows the acquisition of high-resolution images.Other information
