Description

Use of entomopathogenic fungi to stop the expansion of the Asian hornet.
Study of the effect of native parasitoids on the population of the chestnut wasp in the area of Cantabria, an area where the presence of this pest was detected in 2013, one year after its entry into Catalonia in 2012. They are carried conducted from that date, collection of gills monthly from May to October with the purpose of seeing the species of native parasitoids that may be acting on the wasp population.
In addition, tissue samples are taken from the gills produced by the hornet to determine the presence of endophytic fungi with entomopathogenic capacity that can be used to control the hornet population.
In the future, the main entomopathogenic fungi will be tested in vivo (under controlled laboratory conditions).
