Description

The Institute of Sustainable Processes (ISP) is a research institute of the University of Valladolid dedicated to solving environmental problems and improving industrial processes through the development of sustainable technologies and tools for control and automation.

The ISP is consolidating itself as a leading center in research and innovation for the development of a sustainable economy, an economy based on the proper management and use of both natural resources and waste, which allows improving the competitiveness of the industrial sector.

The conservation and improvement of the environment and the competitiveness and sustainability of the industry are great challenges that must be faced together to achieve truly effective solutions. For this reason, the ISP is committed to carrying out research and innovation activities of an interdisciplinary nature and offering highly specialized training that allows generating innovative knowledge.

Additional Information:

RESEARCH:

Our lines of research are organized into five scientific-technological units:
  • Environmental Technology Unit. We develop new biological processes for the treatment and recovery of solid, liquid and gaseous wastes and contaminants.
  • Analytical Chemistry, Environment and Chemometry Unit. We design and apply the best methods of analysis of organic and inorganic contaminants in environmental samples, with an emphasis on trace elements and emerging contaminants.
  • Industrial Processes Supervision and Control Unit. We use advanced modeling, optimization, and control techniques to achieve more efficient industrial process operation.
  • Chemical and Biochemical Processes Unit. We transform waste of agro-industrial and agri-food origin into biofuels and bioactive compounds. We improve conversion yields and decrease the energy requirements of the process by developing clean biomass pretreatment technologies.
  • Porous Materials and Surfaces Unit. We develop innovative porous or partially porous materials for application in membrane processes, including gas permeation, reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration, and microfiltration.
