Description

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the group are:
  • Quality research in specific lines of research.
  • Get adequate financing for it.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of advanced techniques in the domain of simulating the properties of nano-structures.
  • The training of researchers in the aforementioned lines and their incorporation into the Spanish and / or European productive fabric.
Regarding the objectives that we propose in nanomagnetism, we start from the hypothesis that the response of the systems that we are going to study to external fields derives from their electronic and magnetic properties, which must be well understood beforehand.

Regarding the fusion transition in metallic aggregates, a physical explanation must be found for the strange oscillations of the fusion temperature, the stability of liquid metallic aggregates and the surface structure with size, as well as systematizing the structural and thermal behavior of nano-alloys as a function of composition.

Regarding metallic liquids, their complexity gives them properties of great interest and the challenge that their theoretical study represents contributes to the development of a new methodology that can be used for other systems with a high number of unequal atoms. The starting hypothesis in this case is the important mutual influence between the variations in the electronic and atomic structures, especially in the case of interfaces, which requires a self-consistent study of first principles.

With respect to nanostructured materials with large gaps, they are of interest for applications in optoelectronics and it is necessary to choose appropriately the basic units of which they are formed. It is assumed that the gap of these units will be slightly modified when forming threads and / or crystals. Radical absorption properties in doped gold aggregates are of interest in heterogeneous catalysis.

The research lines of the group are:
  • Magnetism of clusters, surfaces, multilayers, and complex transition metal systems.
  • Dynamic properties of liquid and solid alloys of metals, metal oxides and terrestrial minerals.
  • Catalysis and reaction dynamics in aggregates supported on metal oxides.
  • Characterization of nano-assembled materials.
