Description

The CIBA (Lower Atmosphere Research Center) was created by the National Institute of Meteorology and the University of Valladolid. At this time, the maintenance of the facilities and the management of the data are carried out by the Department of Applied Physics I of the University of Valladolid. It is located 40 km north of Valladolid, on a completely flat terrain, suitable for obtaining meteorological measurements.

FACILITIES:
  • Measurement towers of 10 and 100 m in height: There is a 10-meter tower for wind measurements at surface levels and for calculations of turbulent parameters. This tower, with several sensors, has been installed in order to obtain measurements of pollutants: tropospheric ozone, nitrogen dioxide ... With these data, it is possible to carry out studies on pollutant concentrations and their expansion. One of the most important elements consists of a 100 m high tower. It provides a large volume of data and has sensors for temperature, humidity, speed and wind direction at five different levels of height.
  • Radiometers: For the study of Solar Radiation, various radiometers are used to measure direct radiation, diffuse radiation and even ultraviolet radiation.
  • Sodar: Sodar is used to determine the height of the clouds. This element has already been used in other places where field measurements have been sampled.
  • RASS: Richmond Agitation Sedation Scale
  • Solar House: Research has been going on for a long time in a Solar House, built under guidelines for an alternative heating system.
  • Radiotheodolite: Although it is not part of the permanent instrumentation, it is necessary to highlight the frequent soundings carried out by means of its own Radiotheodolite station. Especially in the winter season with the persistence of fogs, the data provided is very valuable to determine the episodes of contamination.
