Description
One of the main research lines of the MIOMeT official research group is the study of coordination complex with transition metals, mainly tricarbonyl with pyridine carboxaldehyde ligand. In this context, there is a wide range of possibilities, which has resulted in many interesting outcomes. Firstly, it was possible to create a large catalog of iminopyridine complexes, including biomolecules of peptide character. The Schiff base can be easily detached from the metal. Secondly, we have studied the post-functionalization of the organic ligand, resulting in boroxycarbens (through the attack of an achylic borane) or mesoionic carbens (through a “click” reaction catalyzed by copper). These carbens are capable of causing industrially interesting reactions and C-H insertion. Thirdly, we have devised procedures to obtain complex organic molecules (heterocycles and aldoles) in an easy, cheap way and with high stereoselectivity. All the obtained products are quite interesting for pharmaceutical purposes, since the organic fragments' skeleton has structures similar to many active principles. Moreover, most of the complexes have carbolylic groups sensitive to infrared (IR) spectroscopy and may be used as specific sensors for many purposes, including medical applications.Other information
