Description
Archaeology for children. Hidden secrets in Pintia are waiting for you to be revealed. The ancient vaccei-roman city, destroyed many times by the fire, is now rising from the ashes to recover the memory of the people that knew how to adapt themselves to the extreme territory of the plateau like no other. Using archaeological recreations taking place in the city of Las Quintanas and the museography staged in the cemetery of Las Ruedas, you will revive memories from the past of the vaccian, one pre-roman ethnic group who got to occupy more than half the surface of Castilla y León, and specially, the whole province of Valladolid. The team of archaeologists of the University of Valladolid, which has been working around the site for more than thirty years, will take you to a past full of surprises and questions that only your watchful eye, your intuition and expertise will allow you to revive, to understand the old story of these Castilian lands.Other information

Additional Information:
The aim is to get an approach to the richness of the Archaeological Heritage and to the recovery techniques that allow to make the historical reconstruction. For this purpose three trial trenching have been adapted with a surface of 16m2 each, which reproduce remnants of the archaeology of Pintia, of both the living area of Las Quintanas as the cremation necropolis of Las Ruedas. The activity is complemented with aspects of ceramics technology, since the vaccei artisanship reached a high degree of development, with wide range and technically complex productions. The biggest oven in Europe, dated circa mid 1st BC century in the neighborhood of Carralaceña, testifies the importance of this craft. Finally, the visit to the site and specially the necropolis of Las Ruedas will help understand how the vaccei confronted the world from beyond the grave. In short, through a very dynamic and participative experience the students will access the archaeological techniques of historical reconstruction, at the same time they will dwelve into the knowledge of the vaccei, one of the most cultured pre-roman people of the peninsular geography and responsible to a large extent of the personality of these central lands of the Duoro's watershed which shape the Community of Castilla y León. It should be noted that the activity is carried out under a cover, but in open space, and also requires working with mud and sand. Therefore, it is recommended that children wear used clothes and adapted to the weather forecast. The activity does not include food. HD Videocamera and professional tripod techniques. Optical microscopic, Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM+EDX), Raman spectroscopy studies. Assisted drawing programs (CAD and 3D) by computer, image processing and budgets.
