Description

Hound Word is an educational software to improve English pronunciation. The software has been implemented in flash using as3 language. This program works as an educational game, offering four tests to the user that will improve different areas of their English education, mainly with regards to pronunciation and comprehension. It’s focused for school use, supervised by a teacher, who will be able to check their pupils’ results on a parallel program that share the same data. The teacher will also be able to modify the difficulty depending on their pupils’ necessities, in this way each teacher will be able to create their own educational programming. Although the design is intended to be used in the classrooms, it has also been implemented for a Tablet and mobile device version. This version is intended to be used directly by the users, so the vocabulary won’t be able to get modified. Hound Word contains four mini games which can be accessed through the main menu; it also includes a main menu which allows us to register new users or load pre-existing users. The program will create a log of each user in which to save the results obtained every time they interact.

Advantages:

- Despite of existing a great variety of both infant educational games and apps to improve your English level, there aren’t many English learning games that are focused to child audience. The few that can be found on the market are conceived for mobile devices, not for being used in the classrooms like ‘Hound Word’ is used for. - Not a single infant game has been found that uses a speech recognizer to improve pronunciation. Under the supervision of a teacher, ‘Hound Word’ would be a very useful tool to improve pronunciation among students.
