Description
System for the detection, warning and dispersal of fauna in the vicinity of communication and transport routes. The project consists of a fauna detection, alert and dispersion system in the vicinity of communication and transport routes. It has the following subsystems: a) Detection Subsystem: Formed by an infrared barrier (break the beam) installed in the vicinity of the roads (in a longitudinal position to their axis), in such a way as to detect any invasion. Additionally, the use of a camera is proposed, in conjunction with a computer program to detect animals by means of morphological comparison with photographs and thermal analysis. The program is in the middle of development, with the first positive data being obtained. b) Alert Subsystem: Initially, a light signal is designed located on the road at a certain distance from the infrared barrier. This signal will light up and warn the drivers with sufficient reaction time when the barrier is activated. As a future development path, the creation of a mobile app is proposed to fulfill this warning function, in which the drivers themselves are the ones who interact and warn of the dangers present on each road, in order to create a large database on this subject. c) Dispersion Subsystem: Composed of an ultrasound prototype, which would be installed next to the infrared barrier, and would be activated when it receives the presence of movement. Good results have been obtained for birds and small mammals, but its effectiveness on large mammals (more problematic animals such as wild boars, dogs or roe deers) is still put into question.Other information

Companies and markets:
There are several agencies that would be interested in the commercial application of this system and its development and implementation. These agencies are: • DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico; Spain’s directorate-general for traffic): With the implementation of this system, the number of traffic accidents due to invasion and/or running over of fauna on our roads (the main cause of accidents in Spain in recent years) would be reduced. It would also contribute to the creation of a much safer road network for all drivers. • Insurance companies or consortia: At the end of the year, all the expenses resulting from these traffic accidents would be significantly reduced. • Automotive companies: Incorporation of an alert chip in each car, only valid and active with the infrastructure (infrared barrier) proposed in this report, which will be used for fauna detection. • Other companies dedicated to software technology or mobile telephony, since there will be other development and application ideas in future phases of the project.
Advantages:
The most innovative and distinctive aspect of this project is that it "Saves both PEOPLE’S and ANIMALS’ LIVES." This is offered to all road users, thanks to the alert signal received by all of them. The implementation of this system is of great benefit to society (both economically and in terms of lives), since it will offer roads that are much safer against the appearance of animals, thus avoiding a very high number of traffic accidents as a result, as well as savings on the bill of insurance companies and drivers. It is applicable both nationally and internationally, being a cheap, effective, necessary, and with a very important commercial future if it is well developed.
