Description

OBJECTIVES:
  • Analyze the construction and evolution of royal power in the kingdoms of León and Castile between the 8th and 13th centuries, through the relations of the monarchy with the territorial powers (Church, nobility and councils) and the examination of the processes of legitimation. In this sense, particular attention will be given to the institutional and ideological development of the monarchy (Astur, Astur-Leon and Castilian-Leon cycles), the dynamics of the Leonese aristocracy, the expansion of the Cluniac monasticism, the episcopal seats, the urbanization process from the "new towns", to the Camino de Santiago, and to the legal and chancery practice.
  • Working within the framework of European cooperation, and the relationship between history and the social sciences, contribute to the comparative study of medieval society and economy, from the perspective of the kingdoms of León and Castilla, especially in areas such as stately income , the peasant communities, the land market, the circulation of wealth, critical situations, anthroponymy, and other lines defined within the international research groups in which it participates.
  • Analyze the medieval Latin lexicon of the kingdoms of León and Castilla between the 10th and 13th centuries.
