Description

OBJECTIVES:

The activity of the GIR Speculum Medicinae focuses on a very specific field of research: the philological study of science and of ancient, medieval and Renaissance Latin medicine. Within this framework there are various lines and actions such as the preparation of dictionaries, critical editions of texts, philological and historical studies in general of scientific and technical literature.

In this area we have carried out or are conducting studies subsidized by the DGICYT or the JCYL on:
  • Edition of medieval medical texts,
  • Medical humanism in the s. XVI
  • The Dictionaryium medicum of E. A. de Nebrija
  • Avicenna's Canon of Medicine
  • Latin Dictionary of Gynecology and Andrology.

The Speculum Medicinae research group has been working since 1998 as a result of various research grants granted by the Secretary of State and Research Universities since 1983, the date on which Professor Enrique Montero Cartelle joined this university.

Since then, this group has continuously received various grants for different projects, either from JCYL, MEC or similar.

The result of this work have been a dozen doctoral theses, the presentation of numerous papers to national and international congresses, the publication of studies in both national and foreign journals or, finally, the publication of different books.

These works have always deserved benevolent criticism, which has given our group a certain reputation in specialized circles, both nationally and internationally.
