Description

OBJECTIVES

Nature and purposes:

The Recognized Research Group is configured as a fundamental structure of the University of Valladolid for the articulation of research activity, with the main purpose of the group being the structural characterization of materials, particularly crystals and minerals, based mainly on spectroscopic techniques (IR and Raman).

This methodology is applied to the following fields:
  • A mineral identification oriented to the study of processes of mineral formation and crystal growth. In the first case, it extends to general processes of formation of materials in the solar system and in the second to particular processes of crystalline growth, in aqueous solution.
  • To the mineral identification related to industrial activities and particularly to the role that mineral fillers play in the physical properties of polymers.
  • A mineral identification related to the historical and archaeological heritage.
The main objectives include:
  • The theoretical and instrumental development in spectroscopy, particularly Raman with macro and micro applications. Instrumental developments in space exploration.
  • Study of mineral formation processes in the solar system.
    • Studies of meteorites, impact materials, cometary ice, and interstellar dust particles.
    • Water and geological fluids: Evaporitic processes and hydrothermal processes. Models on the formation and weathering of minerals in the crust on Mars.
    • Qualitative and quantitative analysis of component phases in fluid inclusions.
  • Study of crystalline growth processes in industry with an interest in aqueous solution methods. Spectroscopic determination of equilibrium and transport properties.
  • Computer process simulation models. Applications to the above processes.
  • Characterization of materials of the historical and archaeological heritage by non-destructive methods.
  • Characterization of mineral fillers and their role in the physical and structural properties of polymers. With particular interest in the influence of loads on the optical and aging properties of agricultural films.
