Description

OBJECTIVES
• Purpose

The group is constituted in order to advance knowledge about the soil, a key natural resource for sustainable management in the forestry, oenological and agronomic fields. To do this, it will develop research projects, participate in training programs (postgraduate and doctorate, specialization, etc.), disseminate knowledge through scientific and technical publications, congresses and scientific meetings or other means of dissemination, and collaborate with companies and institutions in innovation and transfer processes related to soils.

goals

• Study the soils and their characteristics, both in fundamental and applied aspects, with special attention to the soils of Castilla y León.
• Promote the solution of possible environmental, forest management and / or agronomic problems related to soils.
• Deepening the dynamics of soil organic matter, both from the point of view of soil quality and fertility, and from the point of view of carbon storage and the fight against climate change.
• Study the contents, forms and evolution of various nutrients in the soil.
• Evaluate the effects of diverse nature amendments on soils and their quality.
• Integrate the edaphic dimension in larger studies that contemplate vegetation, waters, etc.
• Develop and apply indicators and criteria for evaluating soil quality and improving it.
• Collaborate in the development of strategies for protection against soil degradation, conservation, recovery and improvement.
• Evaluate the capacity of soils to perform their functions, both ecological and socioeconomic.
• Analyze the effects of changes in use and management on soil characteristics
• Study the effect of "terroir" on wines.
• Generate and transmit new knowledge on the ground both to students and to society as a whole.

RESEARCH LINES
• Dynamics of soil organic matter and carbon sequestration in soils.
• Edaphic phosphorous and nitrogen: forms, dynamics and evolution.
• Use of amendments in agricultural and forest soils.
• Influence of soils in viticulture and enology.
• Impact of fires on soil properties. • Effect of changes in land use and management on soil characteristics in a climate change scenario.
