Description

This research group is in turn made up of three subgroups:
  • DataWeb: Compression, Indexing and Applications on Large Data Collections.
This line of work addresses the needs underlying the storage, management and use of large volumes of data (Big Data) in different practical application scenarios.

The main objective is to design new forms of storage and data structure that allow handling large data collections using fewer computing resources.

  • Semantic web, new technology law and computer crime.
Research line based on the use of the possibilities offered by computing and, fundamentally, the Semantic Web (web endowed with meaning that can be interpreted by computers) in the treatment of legal information, understanding as such both legislative and legal information.

The group investigates information management and semantics in information systems, using the technologies associated with the Semantic Web (Web 3.0). This activity is especially focused on legal information systems.

Finally, a new line is opened focused on the study of the implications from the legal and technical point of view of the new data protection law.

  • Pervasive Computation Group (PerComp)
It focuses its activity on the use of mobile systems. The main lines of work are:
    • Application of common mobile devices (Smarthpones, tablets) based on the use of their sensors.
    • Mobile application development (contextual applications and location-based services).
    • Educational innovation based on the use of ICT, especially mLearning.
    • Ontologies for the development of contextual mobile applications.
    • Small platform-based distributed computing.
    • Interaction with sensors and development of prototypes of sensorization platforms.
