Description

The Simancas University Institute of History (IUHS) is a center of the University of Valladolid (UVa) dedicated to historical research, the specialized teaching of the Third Cycle, ongoing training, scientific and technical advice within the scope of its competence, and the historical disclosure.

The Institute was created with the purpose of bringing together all the researchers in the field of the different areas of knowledge of History who work at the University of Valladolid, linking archivists and museum directors of the different cultural institutions of Valladolid and facilitating the collaboration between historians and archivists, in the fields of historical research, the training of young historians and the dissemination of their knowledge.

From this general approach, the IUHS understands that its mission is triple and complementary:

1) Promote research in History developed by the research groups consolidated within it, through regional, national and international programs, as well as promote synergies between these groups and projects.

2) Train researchers in the various fields of History, according to criteria of teaching excellence, interdisciplinarity and particular attention to methodological aspects.

3) Disseminate the advances of historical research in society by carrying out high-disclosure tasks, establishing collaboration with institutions or other instances of the social fabric, and betting on technologies that facilitate access to the results of our work and the socialization of knowledge.

To carry out this mission, we have:

- 60 professors / researchers from the University of Valladolid

- 13 researchers from the Optional Body of Archives, Libraries and Museums

- 19 Researchers not belonging to the University of Valladolid, of recognized scientific, national and international prestige

- Doctoral and Master students, whose research is also carried out within the framework of the Institute

The members of the IUHS are integrated into the following recognized Research Groups (GIR), of which they are Research Groups of Excellence (GIE), recognized by the Junta de Castilla y León. Likewise, members of the Institute belong to two Consolidated Research Units (UIC), in Prehistory and Medieval History, a recently created distinction that the Junta de Castilla y León implemented in 2015.
