Description

Contemporary Elites is a group of interdisciplinary nature (seven areas of knowledge of human sciences involved: Contemporary History, History of Art, Economic History, History of Law, History of Philosophy, History of Literature, Anthropology), interdepartmental (ten Departments of six public universities), interuniversity (the four public universities in the region) and with extra-regional participation (plus two other universities in the regions of Cantabria and La Rioja, societies historically belonging to the same space of influence and decisions).

Our challenge of excellence is to go beyond the artificial limits that academia has been imposing on the humanities and within them on the areas. It is essential to overcome the isolation of the social sciences and a team of excellence must address the challenge, first of putting to work on a transversal objective the different branches of history that are excessively dispersed and disconnected, that is why we consider it essential that in the The group includes the most prominent researchers in the region, specialists in the history of art, economic history, history of science, history of law, history of literature, history of philosophy, history of education, political history, history of the Church, social history, etc.

Its object of dedication is historical research on the political, economic, intellectual, cultural, artistic, legal, professional, military and ecclesiastical elites, who throughout the 19th and 20th centuries have made decisions and led the society of Castile and Lion. He uses the biographical and prosopographic method in search of a historical analysis of the contemporary subjects of power in this region. It adopts an elastic and open position, considering as elites the most influential characters in the region, directly or indirectly, whether or not they are natural or resident in it. The ultimate goal, in the medium and long term, is to create and update a large Bank of Biographies of Contemporary Elites of Castilla y León (BABELCYL) that studies the three thousand people (approx.) Who from different areas of public life have led the society, politics, economy and culture and have made the most important decisions in this region in the last two centuries.
