Description

MThreshold is a support software for decision making on the application of microirrigation technology in sapling fields. This software calculates the threshold of failed areas where the use of microirrigation is more economically advantageous than the current alternative of restocking the failed plant. The software allows to enter data from different managament methods, regarding both planting and microirrigation technology. The software and its adaptability contribute to reducing the lack of conection that usually exists between final users and the scientists producing forestry models. For that reason, it was developed on Visual Basic and integrated into a spreadsheet, as it is the most common system among forestry managers nowadays.

Agricultural and forestry sector.

Advantages:

In the last years, a great variety of technologies and patents for sapling microirrigation have appeared, which seeks to prevent its mortality by water stress, sparing at the same time the scarce available water. However, the use of this technology, substitute for plant restocking, is quite limited despite its efficacy and advantages. The main reason is its cost, which leads to uncertainties over the application of microirrigation and hinders the developed patents' starting up and commercialization. MThreshold clarifies these uncertainties by calculating the threshold of failed areas as a substitute technique for plant restocking, pointing out when it is economically advisable to use it. MThreshold was developed on Visual Basic and integrated into a spreadsheet, as it is the most common system among forestry managers nowadays.
