Description

The purpose of the group is to deepen the analysis of chemical and biochemical processes in order to establish design and optimization strategies.
The objectives of the group are:
•    Design unit operations to separate the Chemical Industry and chemical transformation processes.
•    Develop technologies of interest in industrial processes.
•    Consolidate a competent research group in the field of Chemical and Biochemical Process Engineering.
•    Perform basic and applied research in the areas of common interest for the University and the industrial sector.

RESEARCH:

1) Processes for the agri-food industry:
•    Ionic exchange resins to eliminate food coloring and decalcification
•    Biodiesel production from oil crops
•    Refractory compounds in wastewater: disposal through advanced oxidation processes and biological treatment with specific microorganisms (white rot fungus)
2) Valorization of agri-food by-products:
•    Glycerol as raw material for the production of 1,3-propanediol (PDO) by fermentation
•    Molasses as a source of solvents (ABE production) and biopolymers (PHB)
•    Production of single cell protein (SCP) from industrial by-products and effluents
•    Bioproduction of organic acids
•    Recovery of bioactive compounds of nutritional interest
•    Obtaining fertilizers and agricultural products

3) Biofuel production:
•    Bioethanol and solvents (ABE) of lignocellulosic biomass and microalgae
•    SERVICES:
1) Laboratory analysis: basic analyzes related to the sugar industry (total sugars in various matrices), biofuels and glycerin, feedstuffs, microbial activity studies for fermentation processes.•
2) Development of analytical methods and technical advice (elaboration of NTP, optimization of analysis conditions for different matrices, etc.)
3) Feasibility studies and technical consulting. GHG emissions analysis.
4) Pilot-laboratory studies of lignocellulosic biomass pretreatment, chemical and / or enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation, including simultaneous saccharification and fermentation (SSF) energy recovery, air conditioning, training, energy processes optimization, alternative energies.
