Description

The University Institute of Urban Planning (IUU), as a University Research Institute, is a center of the University of Valladolid whose specific purpose is to develop research, third cycle teaching and permanent training in the area of Urban Planning and Territorial Planning, from an interdisciplinary perspective in which fields of knowledge such as Architecture, Geography, Law, History, Economics and all those related to the analysis, arrangement, planning, planning and construction of cities and territories are involved.

The IUU was promoted by a group of professors from the School of Architecture of the University of Valladolid, in collaboration with professors from other centers and from other Universities, and with an interdisciplinary perspective from its origin.

OBJECTIVES:
The consideration of the city and the territory as research motifs and as project objects becomes more and more important, in order to guarantee the global objectives of quality of life, sustainable development and social cohesion that all advanced societies consider. In relation to this, it is also essential to train university researchers and specialized technicians in the disciplinary field of Urban Planning and Territorial Planning.

The IUU is proposed as a research center associated with these interests, at the service of society and the region in which it is based, within the institutional framework of the University of Valladolid.

Although the urban planning discipline remains at present, in its academic and professional aspect, closely linked to architectural practice, the IUU aims to influence its necessary autonomy, promoting its orientation both to the specificity of the urban practice proper to the architects and to the of other disciplinary bodies that participate in it, addressing in turn a positive vision of the territory and the problems related to the deployment of human activity on it.

In this way, the IUU opts for interdisciplinarity, although supported by the architects' own urban practice, that is, without forgetting its prospective roots and its projective or propositional nature, not exclusively analytical, guiding the shape of the landscape.

Consequently, the activities carried out at the IUU can be summarized as follows:
  • Research projects in the area of Urban Planning and Spatial Planning, spatial planning, integrating the optics of all those disciplinary fields that address urban and territorial issues.
  • Specialized teaching, framed in third cycle studies, aimed at the training of university researchers and specialized technicians in the area of Urban Planning and Spatial Planning, as well as the development of courses, seminars and conferences with an open permanent training nature. to all interested public.
  • Scientific, technical and / or artistic works typical of the practice of urban planning and spatial planning, always with a reflective orientation, with a view to introducing methods and factors for improvement that promote their qualitative development. Said works will be carried out following the determinations established for this purpose in article 83 of the Organic Law of Universities.
