Description
Ontology of educational tools Ontoolcole (VA-146-11). Collaborative learning systems can be developed following the paradigm of service-oriented Informatics. This allows educators to integrate external tools, offered as services by software providers, in order to promote collaborative learning situations. Finding suitable services is a challenging task that requires the description of their capacities. This can be done using Ontoolcole, an ontology of collaborative learning tools designed to support educators on their search for CSCL tools.Other information

Advantages:
The use of educational software tools is increasingly common. However, it is hard for educators to find suitable tools to a specific educational situation: current researchers usually obtain irrelevant results due to the use of keywords in their consultations; besides, knowing what can be done with a specific tool turns out to be hard. To solve these issues, Ontoolcole considers a different approach based on the emergent Semantic Web, suggesting the Ontoolcole vocabulary to note the capabilities of a tool using abstractions accessible to educators. Concepts search can then be made, instead of keywords, which can be integrated without ambiguity by a search system.
