Description

The developed system is able to acquire and store vehicle data from different sources in order to provide useful information associated with that data to the system user in multiple formats. In order to do this, the proposed system works with the following vehicle related data: ‒ Inertial sensor data taken from four different vehicle points: accelerometers, gyroscopes, magnetometers, pressure sensors, temperature and humidity sensors. ‒- Images and videos of the vehicle interior taken with a compact camera. ‒- Sound from the vehicle’s passenger compartment taken with a general-purpose microphone. ‒- Vehicle sensor data obtained through the communications bus via the OBD-II standard: the speed of each wheel of the vehicle, steering wheel’s turning angle, vehicle’s turning rate, vehicle’s lateral acceleration, engine speed, gear engaged from the gearbox, and break pedal’s pressure. ‒ Location data obtained from a GPS device via NMEA specifications. ‒The system’s central unit will receive, store and manage all this data. This central unit is a single plate minicomputer with an open source operating system that is able to implement routines that use the acquired data to generate valuable information for the system’s user.

Differentiation in the market:

Novelty

Applicability of technology:

Yes

Companies and markets:

Automobiles

Advantages:

Given that the proposed system’s central unit has been designed with a microcomputer with an open source operating system, it is expected that it can implement different kinds of applications on the basis of the system’s data. By having a modular system, it is possible to perform a system simplification depending on the functionalities needed that entails the reduction of the number of elements it possesses, which can lead to a price reduction.
