Description
The objective of this project is to create an analyzer that classifies the categories of olive oil by laser spectrofluorimetry, in a low-cost, portable, small and simple to use equipment. The main achievement of this meter is the ability to determine whether an olive oil is virgin or refined, in a fast and economical way with a small percentage of error, by applying chemical engineering to the analysis of olive oil. The main advantages of using a fluorescence-based method with a laser emission source are that it does not require a monochromator, the sensitivity of fluorescence is between 100-1,000 times higher than that of absorption techniques, it is a non-destructive technique and its low price allows an analyzer based on this analytical chemistry technique to be within the reach of any consumer. The analyzer has been physically made using the Arduino free hardware platform.Other information

Differentiation in the market:
Novelty
Applicability of technology:
Yes
Companies and markets:
The project includes a new type of analyzer, with great economic potential in the olive oil and food sector. It has an economically interesting niche market with no direct competitors, as the equipment currently used for these analyses is 100 times more expensive than that of this analyzer. Additionally, the current equipment is large and is not easy to handle.
Advantages:
This analyzer applies advanced analytical chemistry techniques, based on laser spectroscopy which are being used for the first time to create a new generation of low-cost and compact-sized analyzers. Moreover, the equipment includes other modes for analyzing IR turbidity, colorimetry, temperature, and the automated filter fluorometer mode for fraud detection of compounds added to olive oil, with little increase in manufacturing costs.
