Description

The optometry research group focuses its research activity mainly on the following lines of research:
  • Evaluation and development of new technologies for ophthalmic exploration and/or means of compensating ametropia, determining its side effects on eye function and/or anatomy, as well as their efficacy and safety through clinical studies and trials. Special interest in telemedicine techniques.
  • Development of techniques for the detection, prediction, diagnosis, monitoring and follow-up of ophthalmic conditions to improve their early detection and reduce or minimize their effect on people who present them.
  • Evaluation and development of clinical procedures based on evidence for the adaptation of contact lenses as well as the monitoring of alterations and / or side effects on the ocular surface derived from their use.
  • Implementation of actions to improve public health at the visual level.
  • Study of new technologies applicable to the detection and / or diagnosis of pathologies of neurological or systemic nature with ocular involvement.
  • Development and implementation of innovative teaching techniques to improve the teaching-learning process in health sciences with emphasis on learning skills in optometry for both pre and postgraduate training with special attention to lifelong learning.

Companies and markets:

Companies in the Optics, Optometry and Ophthalmology sector (manufacturers of ophthalmic lenses / contact lenses, exploration equipment for use in optics and / or ophthalmological clinics, telemedicine….). The support line for the early detection and screening of possible neurological pathologies is interesting for companies with an interest in providing solutions to the group of patients with these types of problems or susceptible to suffering from them. The group is collaborating with several leading companies in the field of optometry and contactology for the development of new designs, protocols and application of technologies that improve the process of adapting contact lenses and eye examination with special interest in the care of complex cases or groups of particular patients (pediatric population, etc.). Relations are maintained with other national and international universities for the development of different projects (master's thesis, doctoral thesis and collaboration in research projects, etc.). It is also planned that several doctoral theses will be defended in the next years developed within the group or in collaboration with other research groups. In addition, collaborations and teaching activities are permanently promoted with universities, companies and associations or organizations such as the College of Optometrists

Advantages:

Experience in the application of novel methodologies for early detection and assistance in alterations and / or pathologies of different nature based on study and monitoring of different ocular or ophthalmic parameters.

Commitment to a rigorous methodology and multidisciplinary collaboration to provide innovative, innovative and robust solutions and products for the solution of problems related to eye care in all its fields.
