Description
The IOBA glaucoma unit began its activities in 1996 developing the diagnosis and surgical treatment of patients with glaucomatous optic neuropathy. Since then, it has been characterized by its clinical and teaching excellence in this subspecialty, with the following priority lines of work: clinical trials to evaluate new drugs for glaucoma and neuroprotective drugs. Conduction of numerous clinical trials aimed at evaluating new pharmacological treatments used in glaucomatous optic neuropathy, mainly new hypotensive eye drops. Pharmacogenetics. Study of the association of metalloprotein and FP receptor genes in the response to prostaglandin analogues. The objective of this line is to study genetic factors that influence the response to antihypertensive drugs used in the treatment of glaucoma, specifically, to prostaglandin analogues. Development of new technologies for the measurement of intraocular pressure (IOP). Evaluation of new IOP measurement systems, comparing different tonometries: iCare, Pascal, ORA with Goldmann application tonometry. Early damage assessment with frequency doubling perimetry (FDT). Evaluation of the diagnostic capacity of FDT in different stages of the disease, compared with standard automated perimetry. Assessment of tonometry methods. Comparison between DCT, TAG and RT. Glaucoma progression study in populations, treatment persistence and quality of life in patients.Other information
